Noel Hunt, vice-president of the RCCD said, even with their differences, the two group's love of anything aviation made the combined event a success.
"We're not quite as adventurous with our safety as the pilots are," he said.
"If we want to pursue higher speeds and we crash, the results can just go in a garbage bag."
Still, there is lots of excitement to be had in controlling the scaled down airplanes.
For instance, some of the group members compete in national combat and scale model competitions.
Hunt, who is a club ground school instructor, designed and built 15 model planes.
Members can also learn to do aerobatics of various kinds, like loops, rolls and split-S's.
For those less skilled in aeronautics, fully built models are available for purchase, with minor assembly required, said Hunt.
