"The city wanted the pond to use for urban fishing, but we weren't sure what we were going to do with the 3,000 square foot home that was part of the purchase," explained Tracy Heun, Clearfield's Community Services Director.

"I'd like to think of the Community Services Department as where the rubber meets the road," says Tracy Heun, Clearfield's Community Services Director for almost 19 years.
"We're out on the front line with our citizens, at city-sponsored events, with our recreation programs such as football and Jr. Jazz, the Youth Resource Center, the parks and Aquatic Center.
We're pretty visible within the city."
That's something that Heun loves about her job - the chance to touch peoples' lives for the better.
"I love being able to provide the community with a variety of recreational outlets," commented Heun.
From bathrooms to baseball, the Community Services Department includes recreation, the arts, parks, the cemetery, the city buildings, marketing/public relations, and special events.
Tracy's department employs over 150 people, the majority part-time, and includes 15 full-time employees.
With almost 19 years under her belt, Heun has seen many changes take place in the city.
"Since I've worked here the city has developed several parks, trails, two urban fisheries, and the Clearfield Aquatic Center," said Heun.
"I've seen the expansion of our recreation and arts programs.
My job went from being the Recreation Director back in 1989, to the Parks and Recreation Director (the parks used to be under Public Works), and eventually evolved into the Community Services Director position."
The biggest challenge that Heun has in her position as Community Services Director is educating people in the community about the value and benefit of leisure time.
