  Dr. Hsu is chairman of piano instruction and professor of music history at Philadelphia Biblical University (formerly Philadelphia College of Bible.) He was born in Shanghai, China, where at age nine he began his musical studies at the Shanghai National Conservatory. He remained in China until the age of 18, when he performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Arrigo Foa. After earning both the bachelor of science in Bible and the bachelor of music degrees at PCB, he went on to complete his Ph.D. at the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1972.

  Dr. Hsu is a board member of the Philadelphia Music Teachers Association, and has taught at Csehy Summer School of Music since 1972. He serves as the chair of the Csehy piano department.

  Sam HsuSamuel Hsu was born in China and began his musical studies at the Shanghai National Conservatory of Music.A graduate of Philadelphia College of Bible, he received a Ph.D. in Historical Musicology from the University of California at Santa Barbara and studied piano at the Juilliard School.Sam is Distinguished Professor of Music and Chair of the Piano Instruction at Philadelphia College of Bible.Along with his teaching, Sam keeps a busy schedule of concert performances as soloist and chamber music performer.He has also collaborated with Metropolitan Opera bass Jerome Hines, cellist Ronald Lipscomb and saxophonist Marshall Taylor.

  One of our most popular soloists, pianist Dr. Samuel Hsu makes a return appearance with the Ambler Symphony.His previous appearance, during our 50th anniversary season, featured a performance of the Rachmaninov Piano Concerto No. 3.At this performance, the wonderful Concerto No. 2, Rachmaninov's first great compositional success, then, concluding the evening, Rachmaninov's final work for orchestra, the exciting Symphonic Dances.
