   Melody Hsiou, Westlake High School in Westlake Village: As editor of her high school newspaper, Hsiou used her skills at the Chinese Cultural Summer Camp, where she created a daily newspaper to inform campers about upcoming events. She is also President of the Anatomy Club and of the Interact Club, whose members helped build houses for the homeless. Her $500 honorarium will go to the Dean No Hee Park UCLA Foundation.

   Melody Hsiou, Westlake High School, $500. Melody impressed the judges with her academic record (straight A's), dedication to community (teaching adult English, performing Chinese dance, organizing activities at Chinese summer camp) and promising writing skills (a perfect 800 on the SAT II exam). She enrolled this fall at UCLA.
