It comes after weeks of quiet investigations climaxing with the hired killing of the President of the Taiwan Business Association here, Lee Chin Hsin, earlier this month.

Lee, 43, was gunned down near his home in Toul Kork, while Liu Chieu Chin, son of another Taiwanese businessman was wounded.

Lee headed the association as a contact point for Taiwanese businesses in the absence of diplomatic relation s between Cambodia and Taiwan

Although preliminary investigations point to a business for the shooting, some say the killers are linked to the triad.

The authorities investigating the case then stumbled into Chen Chi-li, 58, who was picked up in his home, also in Toul Kork, and charged him with illegal possession of weapons and running a private army.

Chen, now under remand, is said to be an underground boss in Taibei and wanted there for fraud.

According to reports, Taiwan authorities are to seek help of Interpol to extradite Chen as there is no treaty between the two sides.

On Friday, another ethnic Chinese, who was identified as Phu Lee, 29, was arrested, foiling an apparent attempt to kidnap a Taiwanese businessman.
