The MITRE Corporation's President and Chief Executive Officer Victor A. DeMarines announced that the MITRE Board of Trustees has named Dr. Chen-Chung Hsin of Potomac, MD, as Vice President of AvInt (Aviation International), an affiliate of The MITRE Corporation.

Dr. Hsin will be based at AvInt's corporate headquarters in McLean, VA.

AvInt was established in October 1997, to conduct work for international clients in the Air Traffic Control and airport arena.Dr. Hsin will manage the development of AvInt's aviation activity with particular emphasis in the Far East region.

Prior to joining AvInt, Dr. Hsin served as director of international programs for MITRE's Center for Advanced Aviation System Development.Before that, he was with ARINC, Inc., in Annapolis, MD, as Senior Director of Strategic Marketing and Special Assistant to the General Manager.

Dr. Hsin holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the National Taiwan University, a Master of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Virginia, and a Ph.D. in Aeronautics and Astronautics from MIT.

Hsin joined MITRE in 1976 after earning his doctorate from MIT's Flight Transportation Laboratory.Prior to joining MITRE , he served for three years as ARINC , Inc. , senior director for strategic marketing.Hsin was the 1977 recipient of RTCA's William Jackson Memorial Award.

Hsin earned a doctorate degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.He serves on the Embry-Riddle University Aviation Research Advisory Council and is an adjunct Professor at Kwangju Institute of Science and Technology in the Republic of Korea.Hsin was the 1977 recipient of RTCA's William Jackson Memorial Award.

Hosted by the MITRE Aviation Institute and organized by its Director, Chen-Chung Hsin, the symposium was designed not only to promote international collaboration on Safety Management Systems (SMS), but to serve as a forum for executives who are responsible for the implementation, operation or oversight of aviation safety management systems.

The symposium was organized in response to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO)'s adoption of new safety standards and procedures, which will soon be required at airports, airlines and air traffic control systems throughout the world.

The first area was addressed by Sr. Vice President and General Manager Amr ElSawy and the latter by Dr. Chen-Chung Hsin, Asia Pacific regional director.
