Lin Hsin-i

At the APEC summit of Asia-Pacific leaders in South Korea (another country of a people divided) Taiwan's representative Lin Hsin-i, said "Taiwan is a sovereign country, as President Bush said.

Lin Hsin-i, the chief economic adviser to Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian told journalists after the two-day summit that his talks with other leaders, either during the summit or on the sidelines of it, are productive and helpful.

Lin said he conducted bilateral talks, varied from 20 minutes to 50 minutes, with some of the leaders outside the summit.

Lin was named by President Chen Shui-bian as his proxy to the summit after Chen's first choice, Legislative Yuan speaker Wang Jin-pyng, was rejected by the host country because of Beijing's pressure.
