Dr. Ching-chun Hsieh, a research fellow of the Institute of Information Science, was invited to serve as the first Director and the Centre started to recruit staff, purchase hardware, workout plans, promote administrative automation and assist the Institutes in using computers.In 1988, the Academy terminal network system was completed, connecting every Institute in the Academy.
In 1989, both a VAX-8530 as a BITNET node and a ETA-10 as enhanced scientific computation equipment were introduced, a great step forward the Academy's computing development.In 1990, a library automation planning for the entire Academy was organized, and a full text database for the Twenty-Five Dynastic Histories was created.
