Eighty-four percent of RMHS students don't drink and drive, according to the 2002 Colorado Youth Survey, said Bridget Hoyle, project director for TEAM.That's the number on which TEAM, a nonprofit drug- and alcohol-abuse prevention program, and PSD are focusing.
"That doesn't mean we're ignoring that other 16 percent (who are drinking and driving)," Hoyle said."We're still addressing that group."
But students who aren't drinking and driving are still at risk and the current goal is to keep that 84 percent statistic from dropping, she said.

As part of the first phase, student "street teams" were created to pass out stickers and T-shirts and plaster "Living Large" posters all over the school, Hoyle said.

The program is expected to expand to other high schools in the fall and will include student-produced videos, Hoyle said.

While officials believe they are on the right track, the response so far is what they expected, Hoyle said. There are a lot of questions about that 16 percent who are still drinking and driving and what is being done for and about them.
"So many kids are used to the scare tactics, the drug terrorism, the gory images," she said.
