GERALD G. HOWLAND NEW BEDFORD -- Gerald Gordon "Jerry" Howland, 50, of New Bedford, died unexpectedly at home, Sunday, Sept. 22, 2002.He was the husband of Felicia (Irzyk) Howland. Born in New Bedford, the son of the late George T. Howland and Mary Jane (Coleman) Howland-Dompierre, he lived in Fairhaven and New Bedford. He attended Fairhaven schools and was a 1970 graduate of Fairhaven High School. While in school, he was an outstanding baseball pitcher and player. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Mr. Howland owned and operated Jerry Howland Painting and Contracting in New Bedford. He served in the National Guard for four years. He ran the softball team "Town Crier" in the business league and also played in the Livesey League. He enjoyed golf and spending time with his son. Survivors include his widow; a son, Gerald Howland II of New Bedford; a brother, George Howland, and his wife, Judith, of North Dartmouth; nine sisters, Gail Marinelli of East Freetown, Dawn Bourgeois, Ann Lopes and her husband, Charles Jr., Mariellen Howland and Georgia "Gigi" Macomber and her husband, James, all of Fairhaven, Kim Valles and her husband, Richard of Mattapoisett, Kelly Dompierre and Bernadette Dompierre of New Bedford and Missy Dompierre of Sarasota, Fla.; several nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.
