When asked by Forbes.com to explain why this happened, Gateway spokesman Kent Hollenbeck says, "It was a pure business decision."

In other words, Intel offered deep discount to Gateway.A soft dollar deal, and steep discounts on 600 MHz Pentium III chips, helped Intel kick AMD Athlons out of Gateway machines.The whole package is rumored to be worth around $20 million.

So expect the same thing out of the biggest direct seller, Dell, which by the way I hear that some people that work there check out this site often. ;)
