''I think the feeling is that the salary issue is going to be resolved and that there will not be a work to the clock , '' said Nancy Holland , a teacher at Bellevue Middle School and a 10-year MNEA member. But if it happens , she thinks the public would support teachers.
''I just think that most of the people … feel like teachers deserve what we can get , '' Holland said. ''And , hopefully , we're conducting ourselves in a professional-enough manner that it would not be seen as quibbling , but it would be seen as making a stand for our profession.''.
But board member Crotwell sees the unresolved issue as a roadblock for a system that's gaining momentum for improved student achievement.
''The mayor's made an investment in the future , and the council bellied up to the bar and made an investment in our future , '' Crotwell said. ''The board's on board , the director is leading us in the right direction and the community is engaged. We are doing what needs to be done , and I implore the teachers to come aboard.''.
