A set of three pillars designed to look like trees with expanding branches will likely grace the front of the building, which Holland said will complement the building's landscaping and "give a natural kind of look to the building" as well, said Kathy Holland, MCC's community coordinator.

    "It's a really classy-looking building," she said.

The overall design of the facility, said Holland, is focusing on making the building usable to and available to the campus' students.

"The board of trustees felt very strongly that the students should benefit from the new building and that there should be as much student activity there as possible," she said.

Fields' "emeritus" title came with a plaque that he described as "so big I can't hang it on the wall."
