Topics form Nicky Holdstock (Britain) include assessment of fetal health, routine management of the neonatal foal, urogenital disorders (umbilical diseases and ruptured bladder), diarrhoea (including gastric ulcers), critical care of the sick foal, nutrition of the sick foal, Rhodococcus equi management and when and how to refer the sick foal. Local speakers will also contribute to the scientific programme.

Nicky Holdstock graduated in 1991 from Cambridge University Veterinary School.After clinical and research training in Equine Reproduction, she completed a PhD in Equine Perinatal Medicine at Cambridge.Throughout this time she also performed daily clinical duties at Rossdale & Partners, Newmarket, and taught equine medicine to students at the University.She then became a full-time clinician at Rossdale & Partners, gaining a certificate in internal medicine and stud medicine, while maintaining her research in assessment of fetal and neonatal health.She also developed a special interest artificial insemination with both chilled and frozen semen.In June 1999 she was awarded a lectureship in Animal Reproduction at Cambridge University.Her main clinical interests lie in perinatal health and ultrasonography.She is currently involved in a clinical research project on the affects of intrauterine growth retardation on increased morbidity and mortality in the foal and diseases occurring in later life.
