    The Distinguished Service Award is presented to a DVI member who provides exemplary leadership and commitment to the field. Dr. Holbrook received this prestigious award for the outstanding contributions her research and teaching have made to improved outcomes for students with visual impairments.

    As an educator in the field of blindness, Dr. Holbrook has been a catalyst for the education of children with visual impairments. Dr. Holbrook received her doctoral degree from Florida State University in 1986 and prepared teachers of students with visual impairments at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock prior to her faculty position at the University of British Columbia. She has written and presented numerous workshops to teachers and parents relating to the education of children with visual impairments. Dr. Holbrook's research and publications have enriched the field and improved services to students who are blind or visually impaired.

    Dr. Holbrook has dedicated her life to teaching and to service at local, state, national, and international levels. Dr. Holbrook is a teacher, a leader, a researcher, and an advocate for individuals who are blind or visually impaired.
