There were 1,138 foster children without any goal of reaching a family in Pennsylvania in 2004, according to Daniel J. Hoegen, coordinator of adoption services for CSC.
The foster child adoption procedure is a lengthy process that can take more than a year to complete in some cases because potential parents and the usually older children each come with their own specific wants and needs, according to Hoegen.
The new position at his agency will hopefully speed up the process he said.
"What this does is allows us to focus full-time on the children who are awaiting adoption," Hoegen said."What we're hoping to do is recruit families for those 1,138 children, that's the purpose of the grant."
Wendy's agreed to supply CSC with the annual grant of more than $50,000 for three years through the foundation, but Hoegen said the foundation can pull out of the agreement after the first year if CSC doesn't live up to the terms of the grant.
