That was a question posed in a talk Saturday by Ralph Hodge, Olivet Nazarene University's men's basketball coach.
He was the keynote speaker at the 16th annual Bourbonnais Community Prayer Breakfast at ONU.
About 200 attended to Hodge say, among other things, that "Whether it's in our personal lives, our bank account or in sports; we live in a culture that is all about 'Win, win, win!'
"I think there's a lot more to be learned in life, not just from you're victories, but from your defeats as well."
Hodge, who admitted to being nervous once he reached the podium, told stories of former players, golfing and losing in the 1989 National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics tournament, the first time ONU attended the tourney.
Hodge says he tried to demonstrate how the concept of winning is over-valued in society.
He spoke after the food was served and a brief concert was presented by Liberty School's 7th and 8th grade orchestra, A prayer of blessing was given by ONU's Rev. Gordon Wickersham.
Wickersham was impressed with Hodge.
...
"It was humorous and motivating - that's Coach Hodge."
