Washington , D.C. ( October 30 , 1995 ) -- In honor of a lifetime of community involvement and volunteerism , Washingtonians Rosalyn and Robert B. Hirsch will receive the B'nai B'rith Humanitarian Award on Tuesday , November 14 , 1995 at the downtown Park Hyatt Hotel.
An attorney for Arent , Fox , Kintner , Plotkin and Kahn , Robert presently serves as chairman of the Board of Advisors of the George Washington University Law School -- his alma mater -- and heads its Centuries Campaign.Robert has sat on the boards of the United Jewish Appeal/Federation , the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center , the Greater Washington Jewish Endowment Fund , the Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School and the Greater Washington Jewish Community Foundation.Additionally , Robert is involved helping the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation , the Washington Performing Arts Society and the D.C. affiliate of the American Heart Association of which he was recently selected chairman-elect.
A psychotherapist in private practice , Rosalyn began her volunteer career with B'nai B'rith Women and later as an advisor to the B'nai B'rith Youth Organization.Often volunteering her expertise to the community , Rosalyn is working to provide mental health consultants to D.C. public schools and has coordinated a Jewish Family Life Education program for the Jewish Social Service Agency.Rosalyn has also devoted much of her time to furthering the missions of the Greater Washington Jewish Community Center , the District of Columbia Jewish Community Center , the United Jewish Appeal/Federation and Capital Camps ( she is currently their treasurer ).Rosalyn is a faculty member of the Washington School of Psychiatry and is on the boards of the Women , Gender and Psychoanalysis Section ( Division 39 ) of the American Psychological Association.
The Hirsch's have five children -- Noah , Alene , Andrew , Carolyn and Henry -- and five grandchildren -- Marcia , Sarah , Zoe , Elana and Sam.
The B'nai B'rith Foundation of the United States has hosted the Humanitarian Award Dinner since 1961.
