Raised and schooled in Modesto, Calif., Mr. Hines graduated from Modesto High School in 1934.He also attended several years of college.
He married Josephine Loretta Johnson Aug. 2, 1942, in Reno, Nev.
The couple settled in Berkeley where Mr. Hines was working as a foreman in the shipyards.He later owned Pat's Restaurant and Bar in Guerneville, Calif., and food services for Mount Reba Bear Valley Ski Resort.He remained in the restaurant business 43 years.
While in Guerneville he was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Lions Club, and the Mount Jackson Masonic Lodge 295.His associations as a Mason were very important to him and he was fond of his father's Masonic ring, his family said.
After retiring in 1988, he and Josephine moved to Brookings, where he pursued his passion for fishing.Mr. Hines loved to cook and work in his vegetable garden.His morning ritual was drinking coffee while watching the morning news and reading food ads.
