Successful computer services businessman and Chickasaw citizen Gene Hill and family have endowed the Gene and Sonam Hill Computercraft Corporation Scholarship."Our family wants to encourage other citizens of the Chickasaw Nation to acquire the necessary education to achieve success in today's highly technical, competitive work environment," said Mr. Hill.
One grant of $750 per semester ($1500 per academic year) will be available to Chickasaw college undergraduates enrolled at an accredited higher education institution.Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and submit a one page essay expressing their long- term goals and plans for achieving them.
While preference may be given to computer engineers, graphic designers, biologists, conference managers and international trade specialists, the scholarship is not limited to these areas of study.
Mr. Gene Hill, President of Computercraft Corporation, is a citizen of the Chickasaw Nation.Mr. Hill and his wife, Sonam Topden Hill, founded and managed their Native American owned firm, leading it from a home-based business, through registration and development as an 8(a)- certified firm to an independent small business with offices in the Washington, DC area and Beijing, China, employing more than 50 professional and technical personnel.
Computercraft's services include software development, graphic design and publication, Web site development and maintenance, technical consulting, conference management and international trade.Clients include the Indian Health Service, the National Institutes of Health and the National Library of Medicine.In China, the firm's clients include the American Chamber of Commerce and U.S. Embassy.
Ms. Hill, vice president of Computrercraft, is a native of Sikkim where she was deputy director of the government handicraft industry.
The Hills have two children.Fred is president of the Hill Group, an 8(a) certified Native American owned firm, and Carolyn manages Computercraft's Beijing office.
