Gayle Hill joined the Melbourne office of Freehills in 1996 as Special Counsel.Her practice is:
compliance and legal risk management, focusing on privacy and business ethics, especially compliance programs that involve multiple jurisdictions, andcommunications and privacy law and practice.
Industry experience
Prior to joining Freehills, Gayle spent 10+ years as a senior corporate lawyer with Telstra Corporation Limited and its predecessor, Telecom Australia.
Gayle's practice has spanned the full range of legal work required by the large government business enterprise.Gayle has had corporate legal responsibility for privacy matters and has advised on ethics and related legal issues.As well as advising in major commercial transactions, Gayle has been responsible for preparing submissions to government on various matters including public accountability issues, competition policy and extension of privacy principles to the private sector.
More recently, Gayle and her team undertook the Freehills' Internet Privacy Survey which was conducted to assess how Australian based companies are addressing consumers' privacy concerns, and examines organisational attitudes to privacy regulation and compliance.
Gayle is national coordinator of the Freehills Privacy Law practice and a member of the Freehills National Legal Risk Management Committee.

Gayle was admitted to practice in Victoria in 1982.She holds degrees in Economics and Law and a Master of Laws from Monash University with her thesis being in the field of administrative law.
In addition to her professional practice, Gayle is a member of a number of professional organisations and committees including the Privacy Working Group and the Media and Communications Committee (Victoria) of the Law Council of Australia and the Australian Compliance Institute.Gayle is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Company Secretaries and a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
