Hill had eyed run for council
    ...
Calvin R. Hill, assistant dean of students and director of diversity programs at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, took out papers for city councilor at-large but has decided to run for School Committee instead.

He has gone from a field of 22 candidates for six seats to a field of nine candidates for six seats, and he made the switch after five-term School Committee member Ogretta V. McNeil called and asked him to run for her seat.
    ...
"You don't say no to Ogretta," Mr. Hill said.

Mr. Hill has two school-age children who attend a parochial school in Worcester, although the oldest once went to Flagg Street School, where Mr. Hill helped raise money to build a new playground. The family decided to send the children to parochial school so that their spiritual life would be part of their education and because logistically, the two children would be in the same school for at least three years, he said.
    ...
The rest of the field, except for Mr. Hill, has filed some signatures, but not 300.
