A glass tube on a blood pressure meter cracked, prompting the evacuation of Carson High School on Wednesday afternoon as a precaution against mercury contamination.

Carson High should resume its normal schedule today with no interruptions, said Mike Mitchell, director of operations for the Carson School District.

Carson High originally planned to let the 2,400 students out early Wednesday because of teacher training, Mitchell said.

The 46-year-old was hired in 1992 by the Carson City School District and started teaching at Fremont Elementary School, switching to Carson Junior High the year it became Carson Middle School.
