At a conference at UCAS Headquarters on 14 June, Tony Higgins (Chief Executive of UCAS) gave a keynote speech praising ASDAN's Universities Award as a vehicle for sustaining the importance of curriculum achievement activities within the sixth form.
With a government committed to increasing entry into higher education to 50% of the cohort by 2010, it will be crucial that young people can demonstrate their competence in a broad range of personal skills.Tony Higgins confirmed that UCAS had received a formal request from ASDAN for the Universities Award to be point scored in the UCAS tariff, and acknowledged that a growing number of universities in the UK already give it 40 points.
During the lunch break Tony Higgins gave a guided tour of the UCAS building to two ASDAN students from Cowbridge Comprehensive School, Glamorgan, who were helping at the conference (Laura and Hannah are pictured above left with Tony Higgins at UCAS).
