This brings the total number of campaign offices around the state to nine, with about 60 paid Alaska staffers, said State Democratic Party Chair Patty Higgins."With the amount of enthusiasm and excitement that Obama has generated and the quality of his campaign strategy, they had to open a second office in Anchorage," Higgins said."We get more volunteers so we need more field offices."Higgins said the strategy is to train volunteers to canvass, make calls and other campaign tasks, and then have them invite their neighbors to join as well. One new volunteer, Homer's Julie McCarron, said she felt compelled to help after hearing Obama's speech at the Democratic Convention on Thursday night."I knew before then that I would vote for Obama, but after hearing his acceptance speech, I thought, ‘I have to help make this happen," she explained.
