Ballintrillick farmer Andy "The Bull" McSharry, who declared his nomination some weeks ago, was joined at the last minute by John F Higgins, a Tourlestranebased accountant.
Aged 54 and married with four grown-up children, he is a native of Kiltimagh in Mayo.Mr Higgins is an ex-banker and public auditor, who lived in Dublin for many years before returning to the West to live and work.
He is concerned that young people in Ireland will have to join an EU army."Fine Gael supports, Fianna Fail's lips just need to be watched," he said.
He believes house prices are double what they should be, saying, "Elderly Europe have bought •38,000,000,0000 of mortgages as long-term investments."
Mr Higgins wants the government to withdraw tax relief on pensions and suggests the only way forward for decentralisation is for the Dail to lead by example and move to the West.
He wants the government to properly exploit the hydrocarbons off our coast and supports the Rossport Five.
He is concerned about the birth rate."Our youth are not having children.Emigrants coming from former Communist countries will contribute negatively to our falling birth rate," he said.
Mr Higgins said the ban on smoking in pubs and clampdown on drink-driving had only moved the problem elsewhere."Pubs are closing down and destroying a necessary social aspect of rural communities.
