(FYI/GBHEM)- As the General Board of Higher Education and Ministry approaches the August 31 retirement of Duane Ewers, executive director in the Office of Interpretation, General Secretary Jerome King Del Pino has announced the appointment of Terri Hiers as interim executive director beginning September 1, 2003.

    With over 25 years of experience in the Office of Interpretation at the GBHEM, beginning as assistant editor and currently as editorial director, Hiers offers a wealth of knowledge and expertise.

    She manages the day-to-day operations of the Office of Interpretation and has established prime relationships with the GBHEM staff and board members, as well as with the news media and agencies including United Methodist Communications, the United Methodist Publishing House, and the General Board of Discipleship.

    In addition to serving as editorial director, she is the creative director of Orientation magazine.Her portfolio includes supervising the editorial and production systems and providing conceptual and creative direction.Hiers holds a bachelor's degree in English literature from Agnes Scott College in Atlanta, Ga.

    Asked about serving in this role, Hiers said, "I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to the challenge as we make the transition and begin our work to lift up our programs and ministries at the 2004 General Conference."
