Wilbur Hicks was appointed corporate ombudsman and director, Shell/RESOLVE at Shell US in 1997.Prior experience includes service at Princeton University where he directed the first university office of the ombudsman from 1993 to 1997.At Princeton, Hicks' led the campus effort to create conflict management processes and to enhance campus climate efforts, which included training faculty and staff in teaching and managing on an increasingly diverse campus.
Before his assignment at Princeton, Hicks served as the assistant vice president and judicial affairs officer at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County from 1990 - 1993.It was at UMBC that Hicks began his work in the areas of conflict management/resolution in complex systems and the role of diversity in campus climate issues.
In addition to a J.D. from the University of Maryland School of Law, Hicks earned the M.A.T. from Harvard University, the M.L.A. from The Johns Hopkins University in his native Baltimore, and the B.A. from Fisk University.He has received mediator certification from the National Association of College and University Attorneys.Hicks is a panelist for the CPR Institute for Dispute Resolution.Active in TOA, Hicks serves on the board of directors, coordinates Ombudsman 101, teaches in several Specialized Courses offered by TOA, and is a frequent contributor to the newsletter.
