Getting IT hired -- Hicks puts companies, job candidates together
...
G2, which was started last year by Wes Hicks, a Nashville transplant, focuses on placing hard-to-find candidates in mid- to large-sized companies in the Mid South.
Hicks, 35, started the business after realizing the demand for people in his industry was growing, especially so in ! Memphis.
"Today, for the first time, some of the top candidates have two or three job offers, and it hasn't been that way at all," Hicks said.
Since the economic downturn in 2001, companies haven't paid as much attention to their IT departments as they did in the 1990s and that really hurt the workforce, Hicks said.Recently, however, businesses have started revamping computer systems and bulking up staff.
Hicks also realized that no one was doing the level of screening most companies needed before they interview a candidate.
G2 gets to know both the company's and the candidate's needs thoroughly before even suggesting one to the other.
"Wes is the kind of guy who is looking to form long-term relationships.
...
"Wes will give you a call and see how you are doing, take you out to lunch."
Hicks also has a good understanding of what a person's value is worth, Casta said.
...
"It's just inherent in (Hicks) to do that, and it will make him far more successful than he is now," McQuaig said.
...
Though Hicks did not release detailed numbers, citing competition concerns, in the second quarter of this year, he said business has increased 300 percent over the same quarter last year.
