  Wayne Hicks, head coach at St. Mary's High School and former Old Mill High School assistant coach, also believes it takes a special person to be a wrestler.Formerly a volunteer assistant coach at the Naval Academy, for 25 years, Hicks has seen many changes but he says the wrestling psyche hasn't changed over the years, even though the distractions have.
  
  "Wrestlers are very goal-oriented people who don't let little setbacks affect them mentally," says Hicks."They are willing to fight through things to accomplish their goals.And that determination to win is huge.
  
  "There are very few other sports that are as intense as wrestling," says Hicks.

  ST. MARY'S LOSES FIRST: The third-ranked Saints dropped their first match but with the split against MIAA A Conference teams Loyola (37-28 loss) and Boys' Latin (40-30 win), they moved to 20-1, which St. Mary's coach Wayne Hicks thinks is a school record.
  
  With a win today against Baltimore Lutheran, the Saints will also capture the MIAA B Conference dual-meet title with a perfect 7-0 record.

  Hicks , whose son Dave was a state runner-up as a senior at Old Mill last year , served as assistant coach at Old Mill this season.He was a national champion at the Naval Academy.
