According to L. Wayne Hicks, managing editor of the Denver Business Journal, Romper Room is the longest-running children's program of all time.
...
"I grew up watching the show in Florida," said Hicks, who is working on a book about Romper Room.
In his research for his yet-unpublished book, Did All My Friends Have Fun at Play? The Romper Room Story, Hicks interviewed about 100 teachers/local hosts of Romper Room.Hicks said the show had been broadcast across the U.S. as well as Ireland, Australia, Japan and other countries.
Hicks said the hosts' experiences were all very different.
"Some of them didn't like it at all," he said.
Others debated whether the show was entertainment or educational.
As a researcher and a fan, Hicks is also a collector of Romper Room toys, with about 30 items in his collection.
