LANCASTER -- Vincent Hicks, a pastor and former high school security guard and coach, pleaded not guilty Monday to charges that he tried to rape a 69-year-old woman in her home.
Hicks is charged with assault with intent to commit rape, residential burglary and making criminal threats stemming from a Dec. 31 incident at a Palmdale mobile home park.He could be sentenced to eight years in prison if he's found guilty of the charges, said Deputy District Attorney Rouman Ebrahim.
Hicks, 40, was released from jail Jan. 30 on $180,000 bond.His trial is scheduled for May 21 at Lancaster Superior Court.
Hicks was arrested Jan. 15 after a 69-year-old woman picked his picture from a photo lineup and a fingerprint found on the sliding glass door of the woman's mobile home was identified as his, Ebrahim said.
Defense attorney Denise McLaughlin-Bennett said Hicks was arrested in a case of mistaken identity.

Hicks is African-American.
Hicks was a lower-division boys basketball coach and security guard at Palmdale High School before his arrest.He lives near the victim and is also pastor of the small Assembly of God's Elect Church in Palmdale.
