    RICHARD A. HICKS

    Mr. Hicks joined Cades in 1971 and has been a partner in the Finance and Real Estate Department since 1976.His practice area includes banking law , equipment leasing , and project development and project lending.The economy being what it is today ( 1998 ) , he has strong present experience in creditors rights and workouts.

    Mr. Hicks received his A.B. from Harvard College in 1962 , and earned his J.D. from Stanford University in 1965 , serving on the Stanford Law review for two years as Comment Editor and Notes Editor.He studied Japanese in the graduate school of Columbia University for two years , skills he believes he used in four subsequent years of work with a Tokyo law firm.Mr. Hicks maintains his Japanese fluency by daily use and frequent business ( and pleasure ) trips to Japan , where a large number of family reside.

    Mr. Hicks is a member of the Hawaii State and New York State Bar Associations and is also a member of the American Bar Association.Mr. Hicks is admitted to practice before all Hawaii courts and the United States District Court for the District of Hawaii.Mr. Hicks is delighted not to have used these privileges frequently.

    Mr. Hicks served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hawaii School of Law from 1985 to 1986 , teaching subject related to banking and real estate development.

    Like many other Cades partners , Mr. Hicks has strong extra curriculars : he served for three years as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Honolulu Symphony and also as a member of the Board of the National Symphony Orchestra ( Washington D.C. ) . He was Vice-Chancellor of The Episcopal Diocese of Hawaii for many years.

    Mr. Hicks is proud to have parented two children through Hawaii schools and his alma mater and seen them go on to jobs as an orchestra conductor and a computer consultant.He is ( suitably , in his partners' view ) grateful his wife Kazuko has endured that status for 30 years.They live quietly with their golden retriever Lady Julia who is not quiet..
