BUNKER HILL - The Smoky Hill Public Television board of directors voted Wednesday to not renew the contract of General Manager and Chief Executive Officer Richard Hicks.
The decision to fire Hicks from the station that serves 52 counties in central and western Kansas came after his annual review, said board Chairman John Divine.
...
Divine said previous talk of moving the station from the tiny community of Bunker Hill, which is near Russell, was not an issue in Hicks' firing.
...
Divine said the board's executive committee will meet at 1 p.m. Monday in Russell to discuss both long-term and short-term plans, decide on whether Hicks will receive a compensation package and if an interim director will step into the empty spot.
...
Hicks also will step down as chairman of the Kansas Public Broadcasting Council.
...
Before coming to serve as CEO at Bunker Hill, Hicks was with WNED out of Buffalo, N.Y., a public radio and television station that served stations in Buffalo, Rochester and Denver.
He said he has a personal commitment to public broadcasting and hopes to find another assignment in the industry.
