Katherine L. HicksKatherine L. Hicks, known around Northern California as a member of the Strawhatters Band, died Dec. 12, 2002.She was 77.Mrs. Hicks was born in Topeka, Kan., and moved to Watsonville in the 1940s, then Oroville and then to Hollister five years ago.She was a tap dancer as a young woman and a musician who played the bump stick and other instruments with her husband.She also played in the Russian River Banjo Band for several years.Mrs. Hicks was a nurse for more than 30 years and a member of the Rebecca Lodge #212 of Guerneville.She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hicks, and is survived by her children Rosie Pruitt of Hollister, Mona Wolters of Hollister and Leah Augustine of Petaluma, along with her sister Arietta Powell of Hollister.She also is survived by eight grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.Arrangements were through Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home and Crematory.Contributions are preferred to the Greenvalley Christian Center.
