ULYSSES - Vigil service for Charles Hickok, 80, of Fowler, will be 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Fowler.Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Zino Ye Swe officiating.Burial will be 3 p.m. Friday in Ulysses Cemetery.
Mr. Hickok died Monday, April 15, 2002, at Meade District Hospital in Meade.
He was born Jan. 22, 1922, at Halstead, the son of Charles William and Mary Frances McGillivray Hickok.He graduated from Ulysses High School in 1940 and from Chanute Junior College in 1942.
Mr. Hickok had been a Fowler resident since 1984, moving from Ulysses, and was a retired plant operator for Mesa Petroleum.He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church of Fowler, a board member of the SW Kansas Area Council on Aging, belonged to the SW Kansas Gem and Mineral Society, and the Circulator and Whirlaway Square Dancers Club, was a former 4-H leader in Grant County and served in the Army Air Corp during World War II.
On April 7, 1947, he married Jeanne K. St. Lawrence at Ulysses.She survives.He is also survived by a son, Charles Michael Hickok, Phoenix; three daughters, Janice May Hickok, Tulsa, Okla., Evelyn Annette Fink, Ulysses, and Linda Jo Hickok, Belle Plaine; and a brother, Donald Hickok, Ulysses.
Visitation hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Fidler-Orme Mortuary, Meade.Memorials are suggested to the Polycystic Kidney Foundation or Grant County Museum, both in care of the mortuary, Box F, Meade, KS 67864.
