Program Developer As the program developer for the Morgridge Institute for Research, Dr. Laura Heisler has been actively involved in developing recruiting strategies, campus dialog sessions, faculty symposia and outreach programming for the institute.She also serves as an intellectual property manager for the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF).Her background includes 10 years as a researcher and scientific writer in the biotechnology industry, extensive work experience in the preparation of grant applications, and industry experience in intellectual property management.
A native of both Washington, D.C. and Los Angeles, Dr. Heisler earned a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences from Stanford University in 1984.She next conducted research at the Institut National de las Recherche Agromomique in Versailles, France.In 1994, she earned a Ph.D. in cellular and molecular biology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.She is a Registered Patent Agent, author of eight scientific publications and an inventor of a U.S. patent.
At WARF, Dr. Heisler manages intellectual property in the fields of agriculture, bacteriology, biotechnology, biochemistry, chemistry, food and dairy, health and nutrition, pharmaceuticals, plant sciences, transgenic crops and animals, and human and veterinary medicine.She works with faculty members, staff and students to coordinate technology enhancement activities, including drug discovery and development, on campus and for specific projects.She also manages WARF's Strategic Technology Enhancement Program (STEP) to promote the advancement of key technologies through the technology transfer process.
Before joining WARF, Dr. Heisler worked as the intellectual property manager, grants manager and as a research scientist for Third Wave Technologies, Inc.She also operated a scientific and grant consulting business specializing in SBIR grant preparation for biotechnology companies.
