January 12 - Field Trip with Botanist Kerry Heise The 5,300-acre Hopland Research and Extension Center is located in the rugged Mayacamas Mountains of southeastern Mendocino County.Major vegetation types include grassland, chaparral, oak woodland, hardwood forest, and a variety of wetland habitat.665 vascular plants, 70 lichens, and 75 bryophytes have been documented to date. On our easy 3mi. walk through a portion of the field station, we'll see good number of native hardwoods, shrubs, ferns, mosses, and lichens.
Kerry is a botanist working for the Integrated Hardwood Range Management Program.Their research is dedicated to the conservation of California's oak woodlands.
