COACH OF THE YEAR: Bob Heinkel, Milwaukee Lutheran

Despite having just four seniors, Heinkel led the Red Knights to the Division 2 spring state championship.It was the first baseball championship for the school.

Milwaukee Lutheran, which lost to Oconomowoc in the Division 1 state quarterfinals in 2001, started the spring season with a 2-4 record.The team went on to win seven of its next eight, before eventually losing two of its last three regular-season games.

Heinkel, in his 23rd season, lit a fire under the team in the playoffs, as Milwaukee Lutheran outscored its five opponents, 57-8.

The Red Knights (17-7) beat Iowa-Grant (21-3) in the state semifinals and Denmark (23-4) in the state final.
