    W.H. "Heine" Dole

    A 50 year resident of the Gig Harbor area, W.H. "Heine" Dole died April 9 in Tacoma.

    Beloved by many relatives and friends and a lover of good boats and designer of workboats and yachts, he was born in Hoquiam on July 21, 1910.After becoming an engineer at Stanford, no jobs were available, so he worked on ocean-going tugs.He became Head of Production at Astoria Marine Construction Company, and was there until WWII.

    Heine will be missed greatly for his presence, his humor, his wit and his great intelligence in all his endeavors, and in his love for his family and friends.He was a loving husband and father who will be greatly missed by his wife of 41 years, Peggy of Gig Harbor and daughter Robin of California.

    He spent a third of the year cruising the Northwest waters between here and Alaska, often with friends and family aboard their boats.In the winter months he was active in the Gig Harbor Yacht Club and built model steam engines in his own machine shop.He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church of Gig Harbor.
