    Sarah Heine has served as the program director of the Mercy College New Teacher Residency Program (NTRP) since the program's first cohort entered the classroom during the fall of 2002.Today, approximately 600 New York City Teaching Fellows are actively pursuing their master's degrees in education leading to New York State certification through the Mercy College NTRP, and over 700 alternate route teachers have earned their master's degrees through the program.Prior to being involved with The New Teacher Project's work at Mercy College, Sarah oversaw the organization's contract with the Kansas City, Kansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, School Districts to create the Kansas City Teaching Fellows, an alternate route program operated in partnership between the two school districts.Before joining The New Teacher Project, Sarah began her career in education as a Teach For America corps member, teaching high school English in Greater New Orleans.
