Dr. Heine had come to Fort Wayne in June of 1951 as a mission developer for the BAM, to survey the area and organize a congregation in the southeastern section of the city, known as the Mount Vernon Park - Anthony Wayne Village area.

The congregation was deeply saddened by the sudden death of Dr. Heine, their founder and pastor, on December 17, 1963.
