Candy Hein, TAMIU vice president for institutional advancement, said the grant challenges receiving four-year post-secondary institutions to match its gift within a fiscal year.
"It's a tremendous opportunity for us and one that we are aggressively pursuing with like-minded donors and partners," Hein said."We have found our donors are quite keen to double their gift and increase its impact for students.
"We'll need to have the match in place by Dec. 31, 2007.To date, we've already secured $25,000 through a donation by Conoco-Phillips, leaving us with $75,000 to go."
Hein said the grant funds student scholarships at the University.
"Nearly 80 percent of our student body receives financial assistance, so an opportunity like this is much appreciated. We have also benefited from previous grants from the Greater Texas Foundation and are honored and delighted to be partnering with them again," she said.
Donors and partners interested in helping the University to meet the Greater Texas Foundation Award challenge can contact Hein at 326-2175, e-mail chein@tamiu.edu or visit offices in the Sue and Radcliffe Killam Library, room 261.
