In the summer of 1999, NCEA selected Elizabeth Seton High School student Amy Hein, an outstanding athlete, scholar and leader, to attend the Leadership Conference held at the Olympic Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Accompanied by then, Dean of Students, Roberta L. Smith, Amy returned with a challenge to launch a project.

Amy chose to develop a Special Olympics event in cooperation with Prince George's County Public Schools.She coordinated the first soccer skills competition on November 5, 1999 at Elizabeth Seton.

Elizabeth Seton High School senior and Student Government Association President Amy Hein will champion this event.

During the summer of 1999, Amy attended the Olympic Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, after being selected by the National Catholic Education Association.Amy was honored for her athletic, academic and leadership skills.All attendees were expected to launch a project in the near future.Amy coordinated the first soccer skills competition on November 5, 1999.

Amy became involved with the Special Olympics because she has a cousin with Down's Syndrome.
