So says Mark Heilman, pastor of the Empty Nest group (60+) at Lincoln Berean Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, in reference to the issue of aging parents and the need for caring for them.
"I don't think the folks of our generation, particularly those who are in their 40s and younger, really have the idea that someday 'I'm going to be responsible for my parents.'"
Because of the demand he was seeing from those looking for help in the area of caring for aging parents, Heilman coordinated an eight-week course at Lincoln Berean called "Ministering to Aging Parents."
"There were some folks who just jumped on it," says Heilman.
The course, which drew forty people, offered much-needed spiritual instruction and practical advice for those who are or will be caregivers to their parents.To offer the most help possible, Heilman assembled a team of experts to address specific areas of concern and need.
"Every week we had somebody come and talk about real-life situations," he says.
"I started off with 'The Biblical Mandate,'" states Heilman.
