    Alan E.     In addition to his active staff appointments to Texas Orthopedic Hospital, The Methodist Hospital, St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Veterans Administration Hospital, Texas Children's Hospital and Kingwood Medical Center, Dr. Heilman is a member of the consulting staff at Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children and the Texas Institute for Research and Rehabilitation.He currently serves as Assistant Clinical Professor at Baylor College of Medicine in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery.

    Dr. Heilman has written numerous articles relating to spinal reconstruction.His presentations have been to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, the European Cervical Spine Society, the British Orthopedic Association, the Scoliosis Research Society, International Spinal lnjection Society, the Cervical Spine Research Society, and the North American Spine Society.He has also published three chapters on reconstructive spinal surgery and the surgical treatment of rheumatoid arthritis in the neck.In addition, Dr. Heilman is an avid speaker, and has many symposium, meeting, and audio-visual presentations to his credit.

    A native of Denver, Colorado, Dr. Heilman received his bachelor's degrees in biochemistry and pharmacy from the University of Texas at Austin.He practiced pharmacy for two years prior to entering medical school, where he received his medical doctorate from Baylor College of Medicine.He completed a nine-month preceptorship in Orthopedic Infectious Disease, and then began a flexible internship followed by a residency in orthopedic surgery at the affiliated hospitals of Baylor College of Medicine.

    Dr. Heilman was awarded a fellowship in spinal surgery under the direction of Mr. John P. O'Brien at The London Clinic in England.
