Martha Hart is the Treasurer for Pace's Point Fire and Rescue, but she does a lot more than collect service charges!
Martha was born and raised in Fayette, Alabama. She attended Auburn University and is a die-hard Auburn fan!Martha met husband, Dan, in the dog food aisle of the grocery store! She and Dan have been married nearly 18 years and moved to the lake from Opelika in 1993.
When asked how she became involved with Pace's Point Fire and Rescue Martha recalls that a neighbor told them about paying dues to the fire department.According to Martha, they paid their dues and Dan became a firefighter.Of course, she went with him!
Martha said "I had no idea that when you called 911, you were calling a neighbor. The department has grown so much during the past 7 years and we need more people to be involved. In 1995, we were successful in creating the Pace's Point Fire District. That's when we started collecting the $50.00 service charge which helps to pay for the equipment we have today."
Martha became Treasurer in 1995 and has been handling the money ever since. Her duties include collecting service charges, paying the bills, sending invoices, etc.She also drives the Rescue (ambulance) and makes sure the firefighters have drinks and needed supplies during a fire.At this time of year, Martha keeps hot chocolate and cups ready to go at a moment's notice.
