  "No existing markets, no existing sales and now we've developed and identified both," said John Hart, Lumetrics president.
  
  The maker of optigauge technology, used to measure thickness in products like catheters and angioplasty balloons, says it's on track to double its revenue again in 2008.
  
  "We actually started with no sales at all, and no available market and no existing market, so it's been an uphill challenge," Hart said."But we've been very successful now with growing the company very aggressively with that technology."
  
  Lumetrics got a jumpstart from Eastman Kodak.Rather than license the technology to someone else, Kodak chose Lumetrics.
  
  "First of all, getting licenses out of big companies for their core technology is tough to do," Hart added."But Lumetrics did it and is now selling in three markets around the world; Asia, Europe and here in the U.S."
  
  "It is technology-based.It uses light, so it's a fairly unique capability that a product has.We also got a licensee from a company so we have the strength of their patent portfolio that protects us against competitors or people trying to sell products similar to ours," Hart said.
  
  Lumetrics is lighting the way as a leader in its field.

  John was an early Board member of the Rochester Regional Photonics cluster, a not for profit trade association, and is its current Board President.In addition, John sits on the Boards of the Infotonics Technology Center, New York Photonics and Lumetrics.
