The ongoing fight over security and formats is reported with sensationalism in the press, resulting in many consumers being frightened into inaction. While a large percentage of consumers sit on the sidelines, we continue to drive down the costs and increase the performance of HDTV sets. There's a growing group of rabid enthusiasts who are enjoying the best video ever available and are converting their friends who see HDTV over to it.With all the uncertainty, we are still seeing growth and can only imagine how that will increase with the removal of the legislative hurdles.

Are copyright controversies in the industry changing the way you do business?

Firewire should play a significant role in the future of digital audio and video for the industry, if we will let it.The lack of legislative direction on digital copyright issues is holding up what should be the most consumer-friendly piece of technology we have ever conceived.Imagine a world of non-directional cables that can be linked in any combination and the units will still "talk" to each other and even configure themselves. The DVI interface being championed by the content providers should be rejected by the industry as it leads us to continue the same anti-consumer policies of the past. You would think, with the revenues that movies released to video generate, that the fears of the movie studios could be overcome.Witness the release of the box office record-setting Spiderman to a bigger opening on video than it had in theaters.

Because the new sets pack such a powerful punch, some owners install extra-dense decorative panels on the walls in their entertainment room, to reflect and focus the sound in a way that prevents distortion, Joe Hart, sales manager at HiFi House in Broomall, says.

And to keep noise and any vibrations from the TV's sound system confined to a single room, Hart says, you may need to install the kind of wall insulation originally designed to deaden noise from heating equipment.

Is it all worth the trouble?

"There is a lot of misinformation floating around out there," says Joe Hart, a sales manager for Hi Fi House, a retail electronics company based in Pennsylvania."The most important thing is, once you see how it looks, you're never going to want to go back."

In 2007, you will not have a choice. You will either have to buy a new HDTV or a box that will convert high-definition signals to your crusty, old analog TV.

We know this can all be a bit confusing.
    ...
Hart says HDTV sets can actually improve the performance of your DVD players."A digital TV will take anything coming into it and display it in progressive scan," a technical way of saying, "cleaner and crisper."10.What about VCRs and other video equipment?

Same goes for those old things.11.
