Firewire should play a significant role in the future of digital audio and video for the industry, if we will let it.The lack of legislative direction on digital copyright issues is holding up what should be the most consumer-friendly piece of technology we have ever conceived.Imagine a world of non-directional cables that can be linked in any combination and the units will still "talk" to each other and even configure themselves. The DVI interface being championed by the content providers should be rejected by the industry as it leads us to continue the same anti-consumer policies of the past. You would think, with the revenues that movies released to video generate, that the fears of the movie studios could be overcome.Witness the release of the box office record-setting Spiderman to a bigger opening on video than it had in theaters.
