On Tuesday, KISD transportation director Joe Hart promised that the incident - the only one reported to the district Monday - would not go overlooked.

"I definitely want to look at it more thoroughly," Hart said."It's my goal is to get these kids home safely."

He said the system that provides transportation for an estimated 11,000 KISD students almost always works well.

"Schools do get children on the wrong bus," Hart said.

Hart said during the first two weeks of school bus drivers will pick up elementary, middle and high school students, sometimes creating a delay of 30 to 45 minutes.

For first-graders and older, parents can help their child by identifying their bus stop and being at their bus stop five minutes early in the mornings, Hart said.

"It all goes back to elementary campuses making sure the kids are safe," Hart said.
